A city is only as strong as the connections between its people.
Actors Theatre of Louisville unlocks human potential, builds community, and enriches quality of life by engaging people in theatre that reflects the wonder and complexity of our time.
And the evidence backs what we see at the theatre all the time: people who engage with the arts report a lower risk of depression, stronger cognitive health as they age, and a measurably longer life. Loneliness, meanwhile, carries a health risk on par with smoking — and a full house is one of the most direct antidotes we know.
This isn’t abstract for us. It’s a 10-year-old finding their voice—and discovering that it matters. It’s the person who didn’t realize how badly they needed to laugh until they couldn’t stop. It’s someone walking through our doors carrying loneliness and walking back out knowing they belong. These are not small things. This is what a healthier, happier community feels like: more connected, more curious, more alive.
Theatre doesn't just entertain Louisville — it's part of what keeps Louisville well.
Your gift this Give for Good helps make sure that's true for the next person who walks through our doors.
*Figures cited (14% lower mortality risk, 32% lower depression risk, cognitive resilience findings) come from longitudinal population studies, primarily of adults 50+. The Surgeon General's isolation/smoking comparison is from the 2023 U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection.
