WHY ACTORS THEATRE MATTERS TO ME
I’ve worked at Actors Theatre for most of my adult life, and I can’t imagine a more wonderful place to have landed for 25+ years. This company gave me my start—as it has for so many in this field—and I still learn new things every day here. After briefly leaving Actors Theatre to follow my career to another city a couple decades ago, I so dearly missed the warm community and creative energy surrounding the corner of 3rd and Main Streets here in Louisville that I returned and joined the staff a second time. I’m really happy (and lucky) that I did.
Years later, I’m still part of this extraordinary theatre for so many reasons, including fantastic colleagues (past and present), unforgettable shows and artists that have expanded my world, the thrill of seeing new work meet an audience for the first time, and Actors Theatre’s deeply embedded culture of lifelong learning. Maybe most of all, I love being one small part of a team working together to do something so big—not just the feat of producing the shows on our stages, but also striving to create a community hub that welcomes everyone to gather, connect, laugh, and learn in a place that feels like home.
JOIN ME
This Give for Good Louisville, I’m asking you to join me in supporting Actors Theatre. Every gift helps keep live theatre thriving in our community and creates more opportunities for people to experience the connection, joy, and belonging that the arts provide.
WHY GIVE TO ACTORS THEATRE?
- Regular participation in cultural events is associated with a 32% lower risk of depression.
- Engaging with the arts just a few times a year is associated with a 14% lower risk of premature death.
- The arts give us a place to gather. Chronic loneliness can have a significant impact on our health — the U.S. Surgeon General compares its effects to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
