As a scientist, I'm trained to observe, ask questions, and look for evidence. After more than 18 years at Bernheim Forest and Arboretum, the evidence is clear: connecting people with nature changes lives.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people come to Bernheim to explore our forests and trails, experience environmental art, learn through hands-on programs, and discover the wonder of the natural world. I continue to see firsthand how these experiences inspire curiosity, learning, and a deeper appreciation for nature.

One of the things I love most about Bernheim is that moments of wonder happen here every day. A child's first encounter with a friendly giant. A family exploring a forest trail together. A student discovering a passion for science or appreciating the beauty of a tree. These moments may seem small, but together they create lasting connections to the natural world.

Providing these experiences requires ongoing investment in conservation, education, research, and stewardship. It requires caring for thousands of acres of protected land and ensuring Bernheim remains a place where everyone can connect with nature. As I shared recently in Forest Echo, every contribution combines with the support of others to create something extraordinary and allows more people to connect with nature.
