Help Expand Access to Safe Water in Venezuela

This year, I’m celebrating my birthday by helping bring safe drinking water to families in Venezuela.

On September 10, my birthday, I’m fundraising through Give for Good Louisville to support Water By Women’s expanding response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June.

This fundraiser is especially meaningful to me because I helped connect Water By Women with XPan Global, an organization working to expand the distribution of portable water filters in Venezuela. Every dollar raised through this page will support that partnership and help get filters into the hands of families and communities who need them.

A Response to an Urgent Need

On June 24, 2026, twin earthquakes struck Venezuela, causing widespread damage and displacing thousands of families. In La Guaira, local organizations and relief teams are working neighborhood by neighborhood to reach people affected by the disaster as communities begin the difficult process of recovery.

One of the most urgent needs is safe drinking water.

Water By Women is already responding. Through a new distribution network being developed in La Guaira through Funsevi, a coalition involving XPan Global and Church of God, WBW can connect with additional local distributors and trainers who can help bring portable water filters to more families as the response continues.

This is about expanding the reach of an effective, practical solution — and getting it to people who need it now.

Why Water Filters?

Clean water shouldn't be complicated. And in a disaster, it shouldn't have to wait.

Bottled water can be an important part of an emergency response, but it is expensive to transport and quickly runs out.

A portable water filter offers something different: a tool that lasts.

Families can use the filters to safely access available water sources throughout the emergency and for years afterward. Rather than providing only a temporary supply of water, a filter gives a family a way to continue accessing safe water as they recover and rebuild.

Since 2008, Water By Women has equipped more than 235,000 women in 48 countries with simple, affordable water filters and the training to use them. WBW has also responded to disasters in Syria, Nepal, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Peru, and beyond.

Their approach is consistent: show up, work with local partners, and put practical tools directly into the hands of people who can use them.

Why This Fundraiser Matters to Me

I’m grateful to be able to celebrate my birthday in a way that can help someone else.

I also believe deeply in the power of connections. Sometimes expanding a response isn't about creating something entirely new. It's about bringing the right people together — organizations with the relationships, knowledge, and commitment to reach communities that need help.

That is what I hope this fundraiser can help do.
