I first got connected to the Family Life Center through being a part of the committee to add a family life center and the relocation of Clay Street Missionary Baptist Church. In past I served as a board member for the Family Life Center. I have served as a volunteer at the center offering tutoring and mentoring to the students that attend the afterschool program. I act as a liaison between the Shelby County School District and the Family Life Center. Promoting the growth that occurs in the Family Life Center with the students who attend Shelby County Schools.
One fond memory I have at the Family Life Center was attending the Spanish Classes that Maria Garcia taught. We learned a variety of topics such as Spanish speaking Countries, Dialects, and societal norms. The class was a great time!
There are 3 main tenets of Education, Exposure, and Empowerment. I believe that each of these tenets are equal in importance. Through the education and exposure at the center we are growing as empowered individuals!
My experiences at the Family Life Center had encouraged me to continue working at the center as a volunteer and participant of programming. I would encourage people to come, see, and learn at the center.
