I grew up on a 2-acre hill in the country of Clark County, Kentucky. In addition to my loving family and community, that piece of land shaped my childhood. There was space to run and play, grow a garden and berry bushes, and eventually home ponies and a goat. When it was time for the training wheels to come off my bike, I was propelled down that hill, filled with fear. My first driving experience was a red riding lawn mower - a very "cool" chore for a 12-year old. I remember finding arrowheads in the backyard and wondering about the people who lived there long before my family. That land sparked a curiosity in me about nature, food,

and people and I learned the value of taking deep breaths in the fresh air.

During the past 5 years, I have been fortunate to work as part of the strong Food Literacy Project team. Our work is about youth development, using food and farming as vehicles for growth. So many young lives are transformed through the power of this work - from experiencing the joy of growing a tomato, to sharing it with neighbors, and sparking a passion for social justice.

Now that we own land of our own, we are well-positioned for long-term sustainability and growth. In the coming months, we will begin rooting this work in our new neighborhood, inviting the input of youth, neighbors, and partners to shape the future of that space. Join me in supporting the Food Literacy Project today, as we build a Forever Home for current and future generations of youth!
