WHY ACTORS THEATRE MATTERS TO ME
There’s a version of me that has always known she belonged in the arts. Before I knew anything about careers or practicality, I knew I wanted to make things, tell stories, and be part of theatre. I was encouraged to choose something safer and more certain, but that part of me never really went away. Finding my way to Actors Theatre feels like finding my way back to that girl. I didn’t become the performer I imagined I would be, but I discovered there are many ways to belong in a theatre and I’m incredibly grateful to have found mine.
Actors Theatre is special because it is willing to be bold. It makes room for new voices, takes chances on artists, brings people together, and believes that theatre should be both an artistic experience and a vital part of the community around it. It’s a place where something genuinely unique happens all the time: artists and audiences come together, in real time, to share a story that will never happen quite the same way again. That kind of place is rare, and it’s worth protecting.
JOIN ME
This Give for Good Louisville, I’m asking you to join me in supporting Actors Theatre. Every gift helps keep live theatre thriving in our community and creates more opportunities for people to experience the connection, joy, and belonging that the arts provide.
WHY GIVE TO ACTORS THEATRE?
- Regular participation in cultural events is associated with a 32% lower risk of depression.
- Engaging with the arts just a few times a year is associated with a 14% lower risk of premature death.
- The arts give us a place to gather. Chronic loneliness can have a significant impact on our health — the U.S. Surgeon General compares its effects to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
